Shabbat Shalom, y’all!

We’re in the book of Genesis (B’reisheet) reading B’reisheet.

+++++ There was ++++ evening and morning

test everything, hold tight to what is good – 1 Thessalonians 5:21

֍ ֍ ֍  What is this Torah portion about?

In the parashah, B’reisheet, Yah creates the world, and Adam (adam means mankind) and Eve (In Hebrew she is called Chavah – giver of life).

They eat fruit that Yah had forbidden them, and Yah expels them from the Garden of Eden (Gan Eden means paradise).

Adam and Eve are cast out of paradise to the East of Eden. Adam knew his wife, Eve, and she bore him sons, Cain and Abel. Cain, becomes the first murderer, killing his brother, Abel, out of jealousy.

Adam and Eve have other children, whose descendants populate the Earth, but each generation becomes more and more degenerate until Yehovah, despairing, decides to destroy humanity. Only one man, Noah, finds Yah’s favor. (<<— edited from wikipedia)

NOTE: For Older Testament passages I’ve become rather interested in reading them in the Septuagint. I know some passages are different there comparably, but the Septuagint seems to have more depth in understanding than the Bibles translated using the Masoretic text created in about 600-1000 a.d.

This is compared to the origins of the Septuagint.

The Septuagint is the very first translation of the Hebrew Bible from Hebrew to another language, Greek. It’s believed that it was probably translated as early as the third century BC. The Septuagint translation of the Hebrew Bible into Greek is traditionally dated to the reign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus of Egypt (285-246 BC).
