Genesis – (B’reisheet)
The Book of Genesis (from Greek Γένεσις; Biblical Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית, romanized: Bərēʾšīṯ, “In [the] beginning”).
It is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament.
Its Hebrew name is the same as its first word, Bereshit (“In the beginning”). It is an account of the creation of the world.
It is the early history of humanity, Israel’s ancestors, and the origins of the Hebrew people.
Tradition credits Moses as the author of Genesis as well as the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and most of Deuteronomy
The name Genesis is from the Latin Vulgate, in turn, borrowed or transliterated from Greek Γένεσις, meaning “origin”.
